Glasses & Prescription
Updates

Accurate, precise refraction testing to ensure your spectacles prescription gives you the clearest, most comfortable vision possible — whether it's your first pair or a long-overdue update.

Getting the Right Prescription

Your glasses prescription is determined through a process called refraction — a careful assessment of how your eyes focus light. A small error in this process can lead to blurred vision, eye strain, and headaches, which is why accuracy matters enormously.

At Georgia Kapareliotis Optometrists, refraction is conducted methodically and without rushing, using both objective instruments and subjective patient feedback to determine the prescription that gives you the sharpest, most comfortable vision.

Once your prescription is confirmed, we'll discuss lens types, coatings, and frames to suit your visual needs and daily lifestyle — whether you need single vision, bifocal, or progressive lenses.

Blurred or hazy vision at distance or near — a sign your prescription may have changed.
Headaches or eye fatigue after reading or screen use — often caused by an outdated prescription.
Squinting to see clearly — a compensation for insufficient focusing power.
Difficulty reading fine print — common as presbyopia develops from the mid-40s onwards.
More than a year since your last test — prescriptions should be reviewed annually even without symptoms.

Choosing the Right Lenses

Single Vision

Corrects vision at one distance — either distance or near. Ideal for patients with myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism who don't yet need reading assistance.

Progressive Lenses

A seamless transition between distance, intermediate, and near vision without a visible line. The modern choice for presbyopia and the 40+ patient.

Bifocal Lenses

Two distinct zones for distance and near vision, with a visible dividing line. A durable, cost-effective option for those requiring correction at two distances.

Lens Coatings

Anti-reflection, UV protection, blue-light filtering, and scratch-resistant coatings can significantly enhance comfort and longevity. We'll guide you on what's appropriate for your lifestyle.

Common Questions

Can I use my prescription at any optical store?
Yes. Your prescription belongs to you and can be taken to any optical dispensary. We are happy to provide a written copy of your prescription after your examination.
How often should I update my glasses prescription?
We recommend reviewing your prescription annually. Vision can change gradually, and wearing an outdated prescription can cause unnecessary eye strain and discomfort.
What if my new glasses don't feel right?
Most patients adapt to a new prescription within a few days. If discomfort persists beyond two weeks, contact us so we can reassess and ensure the prescription is correct.
